Men’s Interest Writing

Justin has been a regular contributor to numerous men’s interest magazines and blogs, and his work often explores the intersections of cultural literacy, manual competence, and the adventurous spirit in an attempt to explore what it means to be a man in the postmodern era. In particular, he’s focused on how we examine the virtues of historical masculinity while also distancing ourselves from its more toxic aspects—above all seeking to practice masculinity in a way that is both affirming and inclusive.

For many years, Justin was a weekly contributor to ManMade - a DIY website through which he wrote about the kinship between creators and the unique objects they create alongside a series of badass how-to articles that anyone could follow. Examples include:

Seven Modern Classic Books to Put Hair on Your Chest

7 Great Sports Movies...That Are Really About Something Else

Background Investigating

Justin has many years of experience working as a background investigator and political issues researcher. Sometimes this meant sexy things like digging into old case files on microfilm in the depths of the LA County Hall of Records, but lots of times it meant many unsexy hours spent following the money and reviewing campaign contributions.

Justin has researched and compiled detailed background reports for senatorial campaigns, internal political organizations, non-profits, and numerous high-profile corporations and individuals.

Previous clients include LM Strategies, Smart Campaigns, and those who cannot be named.

Nerd Stuff

Additionally Justin loves woodworking, leatherworking, and learning dead/dying languages such as Latin, Ancient Greek, and Lakota.
